(Once more, Christopher sits facing the little girl, holding her stuffed bear in her lap.)
Christopher: It’s over, huh?
(Grace turns the crank in Theodora’s back.)
Grace: (She shakes her head.) No, it’s not over. Camp NaNoWriMo may be over, but Wind Me Up, One More Time isn’t finished, yet.
Christopher: The scribbler completed well over half your story, though, didn’t she? (mutters) That’s further than she got in My Tool, My Treasure.
(The little girl tugs at her bear’s back once more.)
Grace: Theodora says the scribbler had a finished draft of our story. She was just expanding on certain things she was asked to by a potential publisher.
Christopher: While she only had a vague idea of where My Tool, My Treasure was going and where it would end. Neither of which she reached at the end of April. (He sighs.)
Grace: We will finish our story. Finishing it is one of the scribbler’s plans before she disappears for three weeks at the beginning of September.
Christopher: I guess I’ll just have to wait for NaNoWriMo to return to my story.
(A red curtain materializes behind Grace, Theodora, and Christopher.)
Quartz: (His voice comes from behind the curtain.) Quit your fussing. Who knows when the scribbler will return to my story.
Grace: Theodora thought you were next, Quartz? That once our scribbler finished Wind Me Up, One More Time, she was going to return to Of Cuckoo Clocks and Crystal Coffins?
Quartz: That’s after she finishes your story, sister. (His voice appears to address the teddy bear, whom Quartz seems to respect far more than the nisse, despite their beards. Plus she’s got a lot of blogs to set up in advance before the Great Disappearance in late August, early September. Not to mention she’s got something to type up, well, lots of things to type up. One of them is one of them ongoing what d’ye call them? Right. Fanfics. Yes, those. If she ever gets around to it.
Me: (My voice also comes from behind the curtain.) I’m doing as much as I can.
Quartz: Right. Just take a look at your Goodreads list. It shows where your mind has been of late.
Me: I’m writing, too! I’m getting my blogs set up! All right, I didn’t finish Wind Me Up, One More Time, but I’m close to finishing it!
Grace: Theodora says don’t stop. Don’t let yourself be distracted from our story or she’ll growl. A lot.
Me: I know, I know…
Quartz: (speaking in a tone of admiration) Got to say, Theo, you know how to handle the scribbler.
Grace: (blinks) Theo?
Grace: (She blinks again.) Huh. She likes it.
Quartz: Heh, heh…
