A lot of visitors were curious about the context of the snippet I posted last Saturday (takes a deep breath). Here are the six sentences which came right before last week’s snippet in my m/m mythical Work in Progress, Aissa and Polyxena. Cressida reveals what she was doing to Troile…
“This is a service I offer others, including your sisters.” Cressida applied the paint with careful diligence to my face. “No, it’s more than a service. It’s art. I create beauty.” She studied my face, moving her brush from place to place around my eyes.
I blinked, uneasy at the closeness.

Yep, applying makeup is definitely an art. I know this because I’ve always been spectacularly bad at it–as with all visual arts. *lol*

Thank you! I’m not so great with it myself…I’ve been in Troile’s position, squirming under the brush, only to look up at the mirror in shocked awe at how I’ve been transformed. 🙂

It’s definitely an art! My daughter says that a lot of people who are good at visual arts are also good at makeup. Which is why she’s great at it–and I’m not!

Thank you! This is a learning experience for Troile, finding out just how much talent and effort goes into this and how much it can change him. It’s also been hard since I don’t have a lot of source material about ancient Troy or how the women of that time and region painted their faces (or had them painted). I’ve had to rely heavily on bits of the classics and my own imagination. (wry grin)

When I wore makeup, I was good at it, but that was years ago. But I was an art minor (almost a major) and it takes a steady hand indeed.

Yes, it does. I’ll admit, I couldn’t have done what Cressida is doing. Kudos for mastering this ability, even if it was long ago. (bows)

This one is actually a love affair between Achille and Troile rather with Cressida herself, although she plays a major role in bringing the two of them together. 🙂
